Aura TV Backlight Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Got questions? We’ve got answers. Whether you’re setting up your first Aura TV Backlight or want to learn more about how our smart lighting works, you’re in the right place. Below are some of the most common questions we receive to help you get started and make the most of your Aura Labs experience.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How do I set up my Aura TV Backlight?

Start by downloading the Aura Labs app from the App Store or Google Play. Once installed and you created your account, power on the TV Backlight. If it's your first time, the light strip will be flashing blue which means it is ready for pairing. If you are troubleshooting the device, press and hold the Mode Button (located on the right side of the device) until the light strip starts flashing blue. Open the app and follow the pairing instructions. Make sure your Bluetooth and Location permissions are enabled — these are required for setup.

Why can’t my phone find the Aura device during setup?

Double-check that both Bluetooth and Location Services are enabled on your device. Without these permissions, the app won’t be able to find your Aura product. If you’re still having trouble, try restarting the app and putting the device back into pairing mode.

What mobile devices are supported?

The Aura Labs app works on most smartphones running:

  • iOS and iPadOS
  • AndroidOS (phones and tablets)

For the best experience, keep your device updated with the latest OS version and ensure the Aura app is also up to date.

Can I use the Aura Backlight without WiFi?

While the Aura Backlight does require a WiFi connection for initial setup and smart features, basic color modes and some effects can be controlled via Bluetooth. However, for full functionality — including automation and cloud control — a 2.4GHz WiFi connection is required.

How do I reset my Aura TV Backlight?

If you’re experiencing issues or switching to a new network, a reset may help. Press and hold the Mode Button for 10–15 seconds until the light starts flashing rapidly. This puts the device back into pairing mode, allowing you to reconnect it from the app.

I get an error message when trying to connect the Aura TV Backlight to my WiFi

Aura devices only connect to 2.4GHz WiFi networks. If you’re having trouble connecting, try the following:

  • Turn off/on WiFi on your mobile phone and attempt the setup again.
  • If you have a dual-band router, separate your 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands by giving them different WiFi names.
  • Ensure your WiFi signal is strong. Move the device closer to the router or reboot the router if needed.
  • Double-check your WiFi password, ensure there are no trailing spaces or typos.
  • Avoid special router settings like MAC address filtering that may block new devices.
  • As a test, enable your phone’s hotspot and try connecting the device to it. If it connects, it likely means your 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks need to be separated on your home router.
