Aura TV Backlight Calibration Guide

Aura TV Backlight Calibration Guide

Welcome to the Aura TV Backlight calibration guide. This article will walk you through the essential steps to ensure your Aura TV Backlight syncs perfectly with your TV. Calibration ensures the color-sync is optimized for your viewing experience. So please follow these instructions carefully.

Pre-Calibration Checklist

Before you dive into calibration, make sure you have everything ready for a smooth setup:
  • Position the Controller Unit
    • Make sure the controller unit is positioned at the top center of your TV
    • Place the controller unit at a 90° angle (perpendicular) to your TV.
    • If the controller can't see enough of the TV screen, adjust its angle to face more downward.
  • TV Environment
    • Turn on your TV and set it to display something colorful.
    • Ensure the room lights are on to create a balanced calibration environment.
  • Device Permissions
    • The calibration process requires access to your device’s location and bluetooth settings. If you run into issues, refer to the FAQ below for enabling these on Android and iOS.

Calibration Process

Step 1: Launch the Aura app

  • Go through the product setup process. Once the product has been installed, you will be asked to perform the calibration.
  • Click on the "Calibration" button.

Step 2: Align the Dots

  • The app will display 8 numbered dots that need to be aligned with your TV edges.
  • The LED light strip will light up each section as you calibrate each numbered dot.
  • Standard Installation
    • Dots 2, 3, 4 should align with the top, middle, and bottom of the left side of your TV.
    • Dots 8, 7, 6 should align with the top, middle, and bottom of the right side of your TV.

Remember: This process ensures the backlight accurately responds to on-screen colors, so make sure placement of those dots is as accurate as humanely possible.

Step 3: Finalizing Calibration

  • Mission Accomplished! You have successfully calibrated your Aura TV Backlight. Once satisfied with the alignment, click "Done" at the top right corner of the screen.

Common Installation Issues and Troubleshooting

  • Lightstrip Installation Error:
    • Issue: Light strip colors are inverted from the colors on your TV Sync. You accidentally installed the lightstrip on the opposite side of the TV.
    • Solution: Simply invert the numbered dot placements during calibration. For example, align dots 2, 3, 4 with the right side instead of on the left.
  • Permission Issues:
    • Issue: You are not able to enter the Calibration page.
    • Solution: Verify that the necessary location and bluetooth permissions are enabled on your device settings. Check the FAQ for more information on how to enable location permissions.

FAQ

Q: Why does the Aura app require location permission?
A: To connect your device to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth during setup, the app needs access to your location settings. Don’t worry—we’re not tracking your GPS; it’s just the way Android and iOS handle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth scanning.

Q: How do I enable location permissions on my Android device?
A: Head to Settings > Location > App location permissions. Search for the "Aura Labs" app and change "Location access for this app" to "Allow only when using the app".
Q: How do I enable location permissions on my iOS device?
A: Go to Settings > Privacy > Location Services, make sure it’s enabled. Search for "Aura Labs" app and then select “While Using the App” for the Aura Labs app.
  • If you do not see the location or bluetooth setting options in your device settings, delete the app and install it again. This will clear your previous settings and allow you to grant the necessary permissions during setup.
Q: What should I do if my calibration dots don’t seem to align?
A: First, ensure your TV is on and displaying colorful content. Next, check the positioning of your controller unit. If you suspect a lightstrip installation error (e.g., on the wrong side), try inverting the dot placements accordingly.
